Basically, he's trying to prove that the sperm is treated in a "masculine" way in academic writing where the egg is described in a more passive or "feminine" way, suggesting the impact of cultural ideas even in an "objective" field like science.
( Biology textbooks aren't the only place we're lacking equality. )
