Ever notice how everything you make just tends to lean a little to the left?
I do that on purpose.

So. The verdict's pretty much in. I have to have one more test, but it's pretty certain I'm gluten-intolerent. Which means... no bread, no pasta, no cookies, cakes, pies, pastries... the list goes on (and on and on). But I'm trying to look on the bright side and enjoy what I can still eat, like fruits and veggies and other things I should really have more of. Regardless of the result of the test, I have to go gluten-free for at least three months to see if it helps. I made my first dinner tonight (it looks as though I'll be cooking for myself a lot): tuna with corn lasagna and alfredo sauce thickened with a gluten-free rice base. Not bad. I'll have to get the hang of cooking the gluten-free pasta to the right consistency, though. Tonight's attempt was a bit chewy. As a sidenote, I'm interested to see what it'll be like the next time I see A. Between his diabetes and this... well, we're kind of strange as it is.

In other news, today is Harry Potter's b-day (also my cousin's, but I like her less). For a rambling, introspective look at my relationship with the boy wizard, go for the cut.

Should be spoiler free for Deathly Hallows, but a bit depressing, perhaps. )

So... no one I know has finished it yet (given that the one person I thought would pass me is slumbering peacefully on the couch in my basement, somewhere around page 275), but... damn. Just... lovely

SPOILERS FOR DEATHLY HALLOWS BELOW THE CUT )

Heh, so the subject was intentially fangirlish. At any rate, after all the trials of yesterday, I somehow convinced my mother to let me out for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie release, since I haven't missed one since I became a fan five years ago (well, I didn't go to the midnight showing of PoA because Noel was working and the wanker insisted I go with him - remind me why I dated him exactly? - but I was definitely there bright and early the next day). But all the raging bitterness aside, OotP may have just been the best yet.

This movie brought to you by Converse. Spoilers for entirety of HP so far. )

Wow do I get wordy sometimes. But seriously, go check out HP5. It's a fantastic movie no mattter, one of the best I've seen in a long time independent of its relation to the franchise. I'm recovering well from the tests and surgery yesterday (though my poor arms till aches from the damn IV they stuck in an hour before they pumped me full of any of the good stuff). I probably overdid it a bit yesterday, which explains why I'm LJing, not working, at 3:06 on a Wednesday afteroon, but I'm sure I'll get through it just the same. Will be spending the rest of the afternoon/evening shuffling between Dark!Fic and a one shot that's been in the works for a very long time, barring any huge distractions. Hopefully, that means more fic for you soon.

As usual, my dorm room exploded last night around 11. I unthinkingly mused to [info]lazaefair (my roommate, to those of you in the audience), "I think I'll go to bed early." As though it were their siren song, Linda and Christina almost immediately descended upon the room.

We ate, we talked, we did the usual, Linda retreated through the bathroom to work on a paper, and then I happily started my babbling about Veronica Mars. So happy to be involved in a new fandom, not like Harry Potter, such quality writing. How was it different? I tried to explain.

Me: "The HP fandom is kinda like New York. Some of it's beautiful, some of it's brilliant, some of it's showy and flashy, like Broadway, some of it's quaint and cozy, all part of something truly illustrious... and then there's the ghetto. It's like-"
Jashin: "And then Harry/Ginny is September 11?"
Me & Christina: "JASHIN!"
Me: "No, Harry/Ginny is the fire that destroyed Chicago."
Christina: "ELLE."
Me: "Actually... H/G is the fire that destroyed Seattle... Harry/Hermione is the what rebuilt it."
Jashin & Christina: *laughter*
Me: "I could do this all day."

What 609 lacks in political correctness, we make up for in LoVe. Hah, hah.

Further, I'm trying really hard to stick to writing for my table, so here's what I'm thinking: I want to get prompts from you. Who is this illustrious you, given that no one reads this journal? Well... here's hoping for the best. Christina and Jashin have suggested legend be one of the writer's choices. What else can you kids come up with?

I'm excited to have a LiveJournal again.

There, I said it. It's been a long time, world of online journaling, and I have truly missed you. I remember Blogger. I remember LJ back before Xanga. I remember Xanga. I remember LJ after Xanga. I adore Facebook, but it's just not the same. (And yes, that's the only time you'll get that confession. Cherish it.) I like having an outlet, a place to write. I'm not going for approval rating or popularity. Commenting doesn't sustain me as it once did. I'm satisfied with a place to write, to type, to post and collect my thoughts and musings.

I really think it's important to start writing again. I need something to serve as a tether as I work towards my journalism degree. I think I'll survive this semester and perhaps even the next at The Columbia Missourian, but I think I'm going to need to balance the interviewing/reporting/revising with something that's strictly fun, for me.

I'm excited about working on fics in both the fandoms I'll claim as my own - Veronica Mars and Harry Potter. I really like what I see in the VM community. There's a lot less shit there than populates HP, and there's still hope for Logan and Veronica. It never bothered me that Harry/Hermione wasn't a likely reality. The ship wars that erupted after HBP did. It was immature and idiotic, and it turned me off of Hermione/Ron and Harry/Hermione shippers alike. I'll never ship Harry/Ginny, though I never minded well-written Hr/R. H/Hr will always be my one true pairing, but at the moment, I need a fandom less edgy, less jaded, perhaps more cynical.

So here I go. We'll see where it gets me.
